Book and Lyrics by Joel Paley. Music by Marvin Laird.

Doris Hudson of Myrtle Beach spent many years coaching high school students in the dramatic arts. Following a long and successful teaching career that ended with her retirement from Conway High School, Hudson has put her knowledge to good use conducting rehearsals for Community Theater including both The Theatre of the Republic and the Grand Strand Players.
Hudson's upcoming production, "Ruthless, the Musical" opens on the Main Street Theatre stage May 18. Written by Joel Paley and Marvin Laird and sponsored locally by Easy Radio 94.5& 105.9 FM, the show is a farce that ran successfully off Broadway in the early 1990s and received critical acclaim.
The storyline is about an elementary school play, a pushy stage mother, a persistent theatrical agent and a child who will stop at nothing to get the lead role. Without giving away too much of the story, Hudson said the play is full of twists and turns as the plot progresses. In a play where the characters are "believable but not believable," Hudson says "There are unexpected happenings that will please and entertain the audience."
The show features young Anne Marie Martin of Conway, an elementary age student who is already a TOR veteran after performing in many shows including last year's production of "Rag Time." Anne Marie plays the role of Tina, the 10-year-old who is pursued by the unrelenting theater agent Sylvia St. Croix, played by Laura Flint of Murrells Inlet, another TOR veteran.
Yvonne Morro of Surfside Beach plays Tina's mother, Judy Denmark. Morro has been active with TOR, both as an actress and director.
Mary Lauer of Myrtle Beach is cast in the role of Miss Thorn, the schoolteacher and TOR veteran Janet Mayers of Conway plays Tina's grandmother, Lita Encore.
Other notable characters are Eve the maid, played by Jennifer Wingerter of Murrells Inlet and Miss Block the newspaper reporter, portrayed by Skye DeLeers of Conway.
A second child in the show is Louise Lerman, played by Caitlin Gann of Little River. This 10-year-old is in competition with Tina for the school play.
Hudson said one thing to remember about the show is that "what seems to be is not always what is" which produces a lot of surprises for the audience.
Musical director is Robert Lauer and the show is filled with songs like "Born to Entertain," "The Pippi Song" and "Unkie's Muncle."
Lighting is by Brian Carter. Sandy Flora is in charge of costuming and J.P. Perez will do hair and makeup. Stage manager is Charles Nobles. Dates and times are 8 p. m. May 18-21 and 25-28; and 3 p.m. May 22 and 29.
